Adam Gifford of the NZ Herald takes a measured approach when looking at the Commerce Commission’s recent report on mobile termination rates (the amount mobile phone companies charge others to connect with their networks). The Commerce Commission decided by split decision to recommend that Communications Minister Steven Joyce accepts the undertakings by Vodafone and Telecom.

The Commerce Commission says the price phone companies charge rivals to access their mobile networks should be regulated because it is “significantly above cost”.

The Commerce Commission has reprimanded third mobile operator 2degrees over its inability to make full use of a regulation the company had pushed for.
